Reema faces challenging battle to the finish in first race of season

April 26, 2023

Starting off amongst a competitive field with some of the fiercest teams in GT racing, Reema remained clear of first lap chaos, and managed to move up to 11th while cars ahead made contact.

She managed to keep the battle going, fending off relentless challenges behind her, and securing a top 10 position by the time she handed over the wheel to teammate, Alain Valente on lap 29.

A yellow flag infringement during Reema’s stint however, meant that the team were given a drive-through penalty which, once taken, left Alain down in 15th; a position he remained in during the remainder of his stint.

For the third and final hour of theEndurance race, Ralf Aron was at the wheel, giving his all to climb the ranks. With a steady field across the grid, the deficit was too much to overcome, and the team crossed the finish line 15th in the Bronze class.

"Round 1 in Monza is over and we can take a lot of lessons from our debut in GT World Challenge Europe. I drove the first stint and it was a chaotic start to the race – with a few Safety Cars and full course yellow flags. Unfortunately, the yellow flags caught me out and cost us time with a drive-through penalty. We were also struggling for pace, so there are quite a few things we need to take away and understand as a team – but I know will be able to work it out. It was good to get back out on track. It’s only the first round, so we have plenty of opportunities to improve. I’m already looking forward to the next round at Paul Ricard."
